For many women, pregnancy is one of the most exciting and overwhelming times of life. Between changing hormones, disrupted sleep, rising stress levels, and constant questions about what’s “normal,” many expectant mothers are turning to wearable health technology for reassurance and insight.

One device increasingly becoming part of that journey is the Oura Ring – a sleek smart ring that tracks sleep, body temperature, heart rate variability, readiness, and recovery. Originally known for elite sleep tracking and fitness insights, the ring has evolved into a powerful women’s health companion, with dedicated pregnancy features designed to help women better understand the dramatic physiological changes happening throughout pregnancy.

According to Oura Women’s Health, the platform now includes Pregnancy Insights, giving users contextual information about their vitals, gestational milestones, and changing body patterns throughout each trimester.

A New Era of Pregnancy Tracking

Traditional pregnancy apps often rely on manual symptom logging and generic advice. Oura takes a more personalised approach by continuously collecting biometric data overnight, including skin temperature trends, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and heart rate variability (HRV).

These metrics can reveal subtle body changes long before women consciously notice them.

Some users have even reported that the ring detected physiological changes before they realised they were pregnant. In online discussions, women described seeing sustained temperature increases and elevated heart rates that prompted them to take pregnancy tests.

Oura’s Pregnancy Insights feature allows users to:

  • Track gestational age and trimester progress
  • Monitor changing vital signs during pregnancy
  • Log symptoms and physical experiences
  • View pregnancy-specific educational insights
  • Understand how sleep and recovery are evolving during each stage

The company says the goal is to help women feel “grounded at every stage of pregnancy.”

Why Sleep and Recovery Matter More Than Ever

Pregnancy dramatically affects sleep quality. Hormonal changes, physical discomfort, anxiety, and increased nighttime waking can leave women exhausted — particularly during the first and third trimesters.

Oura’s sleep tracking capabilities have become one of the biggest drawcards for pregnant users. The ring provides detailed insights into sleep stages, bedtime consistency, recovery, and overnight physiological stress.

Many women say the data helped them better understand why they felt depleted and encouraged them to prioritise rest without guilt.

TechRadar described the launch of Pregnancy Insights as “a step in the right direction for women’s health monitoring,” highlighting the growing demand for technology designed specifically around female physiology rather than generic wellness metrics.

Real Women, Real Experiences

Online communities reveal a mix of reassurance and realism when it comes to using wearable health technology during pregnancy.

Some women say the ring helped them feel more informed and connected to their bodies throughout pregnancy. Others appreciated being able to monitor long-term trends rather than obsess over day-to-day symptoms.

But many users also note that pregnancy can temporarily lower readiness scores because elevated heart rate and body temperature – perfectly normal in pregnancy – are interpreted as physiological strain. Several Reddit users said they initially found the alerts stressful before reframing the data within the context of pregnancy itself.

That tension reflects a broader conversation happening across the wearable tech industry: how devices can better adapt algorithms for women’s health and pregnancy.

The Bigger Shift in Women’s Health Tech

For years, most wearable devices were designed around male-centric health data and exercise metrics. That is beginning to change.

Oura has increasingly positioned itself as a leader in women’s health technology, expanding from cycle tracking into fertility, pregnancy, perimenopause, and hormonal health. The company recently added features supporting hormonal birth control tracking and menopause insights as part of its broader women’s health roadmap.

According to Vogue, women particularly Gen Z consumers are now driving much of the wearable brand’s rapid growth as health tracking becomes more personalised and preventative.

An Oura Ring Is A Tool — Not a Replacement for Medical Advice

While Oura can provide valuable insights into trends and recovery patterns, experts stress that wearable devices should never replace professional medical care during pregnancy.

Instead, the ring works best as a complementary wellness tool helping women tune into their bodies, identify changes, improve sleep habits, and build greater awareness of how pregnancy affects their health day-to-day.

For many expectant mothers, that deeper understanding alone can offer something incredibly valuable during pregnancy: peace of mind.
