In Europe the figure is a staggering 300-million tonnes of fruit and veg thrown away annually! But now, one French supermarket, INTERMARCHE, has introduced a successful campaign called ‘Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables’ embracing all the produce their suppliers can provide – regardless of whether it conforms to customers’ cosmetic standards, selling it at 30% discount and turning it into soups and juices. Unfortunately the Supermarket chain created a new problem for themselves – they couldn’t keep up with demand!

So why do we discard food based on the way it looks – and what does that say about us as a society? Check out what TheCarousel.com Social Commentators Suzanne Mostyn and Adam Boland think of the French campaign and how they fight-the-good-food-fight in their own environments. (Source* 2012 Food Insecurity Report)
