While Aussies are well-versed in the importance of consuming two litres of water a day, many of us are not keeping up with our hydration game. In fact, a recent study by Hydralyte (who recently announced model and mother Elyse Knowles as an ambassador) revealed that a staggering 73% of Australians are falling short of their daily fluid intake. But, if you struggle to sip your way through 2000mls of h20, here are seven other surprising ways to boost your hydration – without having to chug down a bottle of still, sparking or tap.

1. Water-rich fruit is your friend

Did you know that the food you eat can be a fantastic source of hydration? Fruits like watermelon (over 90% water!), oranges, and strawberries are not just delicious – they also pack a hydrating punch. Add them to your breakfast, toss them in salads, or blend them into smoothies. Not only will you feel refreshed, but your body will thank you!

2. Veggies are a vibe

Veggies aren’t just for side dishes – they can be hydration heroes too. Cucumbers, tomatoes, and celery are all water-rich choices that can easily be added to meals or enjoyed as snacks. Consider whipping up a fresh gazpacho or a crunchy veggie platter with hummus for a hydrating treat!

3. Fruity, flavoursome and fun!

Bored of plain water? Spice things up by infusing your drinks! Add slices of lemon, mint leaves, or berries to your water or sparkling beverages. You’ll not only make your drink look fabulous, but the added flavours can make sipping more enjoyable, encouraging you to drink more throughout the day.

4. Hydration that pops

As the warmer months approach, hydration pops can be a game-changer. Hydralyte’s Electrolyte Ice Blocks are a fun way to stay cool and hydrated. They’re not just for kids – adults can enjoy them too! These tasty treats can help replenish lost electrolytes, making them perfect for post-exercise recovery or a sunny day at the beach.

5. Slurp your soups

Nothing says comfort like a warm bowl of soup! (Or opt for a cool cup of gazpacho if the heat is hitting!) Broths and soups are great sources of hydration and can be packed with veggies for extra nutrients. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty minestrone or a light miso soup, these liquid meals can help you stay hydrated while satisfying your taste buds.

6. Say yes to yoghurt

Yoghurt isn’t just a probiotic powerhouse; it also contains a significant amount of water. Whether you enjoy it plain, with fruits, or in smoothies, yoghurt can help maintain your hydration levels. Go for Greek yoghurt for an extra protein boost, and mix in some honey or nuts for added flavour and texture!

7. Spill the tea

Finally, coffee and tea are often misunderstood when it comes to hydration. Contrary to old myths, these beverages can contribute to your daily fluid intake. Whether you prefer a morning coffee or an afternoon herbal tea, indulge in your favourite brew guilt-free! Just remember to balance it with some water or hydrating foods to keep everything in check.
