How To Have A Morning Routine To Kickstart Your Day

Ever wondered why some people bounce out of bed and appear to magically flow through out their day? Is it just luck or is there a secret to their Midas touch…

There’s always someone we know who appears to have their act together and when we don’t, it only exasperates our own perceived efforts. It can be disheartening however, there’s an insight here that we can use to our advantage, only if we’re willing to take a closer look.

‘These people’ as we may tend to call them are the perfect specimens to observe. Observe how they hold themselves, how they communicate and express themselves, and of course their actions. I actually like to go one step further and ask them what their daily routine looks like, and you may be surprised with what they actually do to ‘appear’ to keep this momentum going.

to-do list, routine, morning

A routine is basically a ritual of having some sort of discipline to act, do and think on a regular basis. It may not sound exciting or fun initially however, within a short space of time you’ll find the results speak for themselves. It’s like anything in life, you have to keep this ritual, this routine in place for it to keep working, keep the momentum. It doesn’t mean you can’t take a break but just like with exercise, the more consistent you are, the steadier the results. And these results will impact all aspects of your life, trust me!

The best way I encourage clients to create a simple ritual is in the morning. You start it first thing and it’s done for the rest of the day without you having to think or remind yourself of it. The only part that you really need is a bit of planning of what you’re going to implement, and the other ingredient is your commitment to following it through. Without your commitment, your word, nothing is going to change!

So, you’ve said YES and made that pledge to yourself, the next step is working out want you’re actually going to do. So, let’s make it easy and doable to begin with. I suggest doing this in increments, that way you find out what’s working for you and what’s not, then you can fine-tune your own morning ritual. Let’s get started and make a plan:

routine, morning, alarm
  • Wake up 30–60 minutes earlier than you normally would. Waking up before everyone else is what I like to call the magic hour!
  • Start off with a 5-10-minutes meditation. You can use an app or download guided meditations or mindfulness exercises to begin with.
  • Journal for 5-15 minutes. This is not to download all the things you’re not happy with, no this journaling is to inspire you about how you want to feel through-out your day and what you’d like to achieve, what you’d like to follow through on and of course your ideas!
  • Exercise for 15-30 minutes. If you’ve already got this as part of your daily ritual WELL DONE! If you haven’t, start off with a brisk walk in the morning or you can access some online exercise/yoga sessions to do at home. Remember, moving your body early in the morning releases those happy endorphins for the rest of your day.

So, don’t let ‘those people’ make you grumpy about life, let them inspire you to start your own morning ritual. By getting up 30 minutes earlier and doing these 3 steps can make all the difference to living vibrantly in your world as opposed to just existing on auto-pilot. The choice is yours to make!
